Electric & Hybrid Leasing
Leasing is the lowest-risk way to go electric: fixed costs, no long-term commitment to fast-moving technology, and expert help choosing a car that genuinely fits your driving.
Why lease an electric car?
Electric vehicle technology is improving at pace - batteries, range and charging speeds get better with every generation. That's great news as a driver, but it makes buying an EV outright a gamble on future values. Leasing removes that risk entirely: the funder owns the car, you enjoy the latest technology at a fixed monthly cost, and in a few years you hand it back and step into something even better.
Running costs are typically lower too. Charging at home costs a fraction of the equivalent in petrol or diesel, servicing is simpler with fewer moving parts, and EVs currently enjoy favourable tax treatment - especially as company cars.
Electric, plug-in hybrid or hybrid?
- Battery electric (BEV) - purely electric, zero tailpipe emissions. Best if you can charge at home or work and most journeys are within the car's real-world range. Modern EVs typically offer 200–350+ miles between charges.
- Plug-in hybrid (PHEV) - a battery for typically 30–60 miles of electric driving plus a petrol or diesel engine for longer trips. A sensible stepping stone if you regularly drive long distances or can't always charge.
- Hybrid / mild hybrid (HEV/MHEV) - self-charging assistance that improves fuel economy with no need to plug in. The easiest switch of all, though with the smallest efficiency gains.
Not sure which suits you? That's exactly the conversation we're here for. Tell us about your typical week of driving and we'll give you an honest steer - including whether an EV isn't right for you yet.
Company car drivers: the tax advantage
Electric cars currently attract very low benefit-in-kind (BIK) rates compared with petrol and diesel models, which can make an electric company car dramatically cheaper in real terms for the driver - and a highly tax-efficient benefit for the business. Combined with VAT recovery on business contract hire rentals, going electric through the business is often the smartest route. See our business leasing page, or if you employ staff, our salary sacrifice scheme takes the tax advantage even further. Ask us to run the numbers for your situation.
Charging at home and on the road
Most EV drivers do the vast majority of their charging at home overnight on a dedicated home charger, waking up to a full battery every morning. Public charging continues to expand rapidly across the UK, with high-speed chargers on major routes making long journeys straightforward with a little planning.
When you lease through Albany, we'll talk you through charging options for your circumstances - including home charger installation and tariffs - before you commit to anything.
What's included with an electric lease
- Brand-new EV or hybrid - any make and model on sale in the UK
- Road tax for the contract duration (at the initial rate)
- Full manufacturer's warranty, including the battery warranty (typically 8 years / 100,000 miles)
- Free UK mainland delivery and end-of-contract collection
- Optional maintenance package for fixed-cost servicing and tyres
